  I took my cat Hobie to West Friendship Animal Hospital recently because I noticed he was not eating his food. Dr. Gibbons examined him and took blood for a workup to help determine what was wrong. I thought it was his thyroid, however Dr. Gibbons soon determined that it was his TEETH!!! All these many years all Hobie ate was dry cat food. I soon learned that contrary to what I had believed in the past, dry cat food can cause problems especially in elderly and overweight cats like Hobie. I must say that Dr. Gibbons was kind, compassionate and very gentle with Hobie, which I am sure Hobie appreciated very much. Several days later Hobie was scheduled to return to have teeth extractions. I was not aware how severe his condition was previous to bringing him to the office because he did not show and overt signs of distress until now. Needless to say, Hobie is feeling MUCH better and this was due entirely to the very professional services of Dr. Estelle Ward. She is undoubtedly VERY HIGHLY skilled and learned in the medical art of healing our sick animals. I learned a great deal from her with respect to what a cat's diet needs to be...too many times we are bombarded with commercials about cat foods (dry cat foods) but we are NEVER told that there is also a consequence to improperly feeding your cat, especially as it concerns their dental health AND...poor dental health in a cat leads to years of suffering, pain and an early death. EVERY cat owner should be aware of the fact that you, the owner, may not even be aware of their pain and suffering UNTIL it is too late to do much about it. IF YOU WANT TRUTHFUL ANSWERS to those questions you have never thought about asking before ...ask them NOW...Dr. Ward will give you the facts and perhaps you, like myself, will realize that it might not be too late to correct the situation. I would rate Dr. Ward as being one of the very best veterinarians in the country!! Howard county is lucky to have here here, available to serve the needs of those in our local community..In addition, her staff includes some really great. helpful, friendly, COMPASSIONATE and DEDICATED employees like Kelly, Lauren, Patty and Katelyn (Hope I did'nt leave anyone out!!)...they all make you feel like you and your pets matter, and they demonstrate that caring in all they do. PLEASE....be aware that February and March are pets dental care months.....DON'T do what I did, and fail to have your pet checked for their dental health needs because we did'nt recognize any visible signs of their distress. If we really love our pets we owe it to them to make their lives as happy as they make our lives. I

  I have dealt with this place for years. They have a pleasant staff. I would definitely shop around before going here though. They push so many shots, pills, etc.. I needed a flu shot and then a booster shot....etc... I read up on this and found out that a lot of what Vets recommend are really not that necessary. They certainly add to their bottom line. (Google independent Vets vs. Corporate Vets.). My dog required surgery. The first quote was $800-$1100. It ended up costing me almost $1700. There were some circumstances that may have caused the cost to go up but not by that much. Then I went in for a "complimentary" follow up. The Vet said he should receive an antibiotic shot because his scab may get infected. It actually looked fine. She never explained the cost... It was $200! They then told me I could file for a rebate for $30. I feel I have been blind sided with all these extra costs. I will not return and would not recommend them unless you want to shell out a lot of extra money for your pet.
